TaskRabbit: Earn Up to $80/hr Doing Everyday Tasks and Errands

With the growing number of people living independently, an extra pair of hands to run errands, do chores or even home repairs, is always a big help. And for those who have too much on their plate, someone who can lend a hand is exactly what they need, if they are willing to pay for it.

So if you’re one who’s eager to earn money by completing everyday tasks and errands, including cleaning, home repairs, furniture assembly, moving, delivery, and handyman work, here’s an app you’ll love: TaskRabbit. Read on and find out why this app is an excellent way to earn extra cash – up to $80 an hour, and why it’s certainly worth your time.

What is TaskRabbit?

TaskRabbit is a website or mobile app that connects busy people, who need tasks such as errands, chores or home repairs to be done, with Taskers who are willing to do them. Upon completion of the chore, they will be paid a certain fee. It was founded by Leah Busque in 2008 and launched during the same year. It first started out as RunMyErrand, but was later renamed as TaskRabbit in 2010.

Is TaskRabbit legit?

Yes, TaskRabbit is a legitimate application and program that could help you earn money by doing other people’s tasks for them. All Taskers are background-checked at the state level. Since it was founded in 2008, more than 4 million tasks have been booked through the TaskRabbit platform. In fact, in 2019 alone, Taskers have collectively earned more than $100 million. It was acquired by the Ingka Group (IKEA) in 2017 and is currently available in every IKEA store in the U.S. and in key markets in the U.K., Canada, France, Germany, and Spain. It is also integrated on IKEA’s websites in each of the aforementioned countries.

Who can become a Tasker?

TaskRabbit, headquartered in San Francisco, operates in more than 70 markets across six countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Spain, Germany, and France.

To be a Tasker, you must be at least 18 years old if you are from the United Kingdom, and at least 21 years old if you are from the United States. You must be residing in cities or metro areas where TaskRabbit is available. TaskRabbit also does an ID check and requires Taskers to have a valid driver’s license as well as a valid U.S. Social Security number. For Taskers from California, you must submit a business license which states that you are a sole proprietor, since you’re considered a contractor, not an employee.

You will also need to download the Tasker app, which is compatible with iOS or Android, since you will use it to manage your tasks.

There is also a video interview that you will need to do in order to be accepted or considered.

How does TaskRabbit work exactly?

To get started, you need to create a Tasker account online and download the TaskRabbit app. It is available on the App Store and Google Play. On the “Become a Tasker” page, choose what services you want to offer and include information about your experience in that field. There are more than 50 job categories with about 200 different tasks to choose from. Complete your Tasker profile by filling in your name, email address, phone number, ZIP code, and other required information. Including a photo and any credentials that might be necessary for certain jobs. Be sure to upload a clear photo of your face against a clear background, so your clients know who to expect.

TaskRabbit will then verify your eligibility by checking if you meet the requirements such as age, IDs, Social Security Number, and a checking account.

Once you’re approved as a Tasker, you can set up your profile for as many services as you would like. You can also set a different rate for each service. For some categories like delivery or errands, previous experience is not required. For others, however, like minor home repairs and IKEA Assembly, you must have or be willing to learn skills and tools necessary to complete the tasks.

Set your schedule depending on your weekly availability or you can also choose to receive same-day jobs. These will be displayed in Client search results. Don’t forget to set your work area. Location is important because most of the tasks are in-person. By in-person tasks, we mean anything from assembling furniture, performing handyman tasks, delivering items or picking them up, organizing closets, to cleaning. There are also, however, virtual tasks. The most popular of them are those that are related to virtual assistant duties. They may also include research, writing, and office administration work. Once someone in your area posts a task that matches a service you are set up to do, you will receive a notification if the requirements fit your profile. Be sure to set your profile to “available” to be able to receive these notifications. Once you accept a task, the client will be notified and then you can communicate about the details of the tasks and the payment.

The processing time for registration varies by city but usually takes within four business days. In applicable cities, they charge a registration fee of $25 for US taskers and £20 for UK taskers. This is non-refundable and doesn’t guaranatee getting approved as a Tasker.

Finally, you can accept requests sent to your phone and start getting paid. Like most other services, the client can leave a review once you have completed a task. TaskRabbit encourages Taskers to keep their acceptance rating above 75%. You can also maximize your earnings by adding services, making yourself available for same-day tasks, expanding your availability, adjusting your rates, adding descriptions of your experience, and focusing on tasks around higher-paying city.

Add all the services you are comfortable doing and are qualified to do. The more services you offer, the wider your scope is. Making yourself available for same-day tasks may enable to earn higher rates and a higher chance of getting booked if you are the only person available at that time. It helps to expand your availability because you won’t show up in client searches during times that you schedule available. Double-check that your rates are right for the service. Although nobody wants to charge the lowest rate, you must also make sure that how much you charge is commensurate to your skills and reviews. You may want to take advantage of TaskRabbit’s availability in many cities and your ability to work in more than one location by focusing on tasks around the higher-paying city.

How much can you make as a Tasker?

Taskers set their own rates and schedule. Average rates usually depend on the service and location. Certain tasks also pay out more depending on how labor-intensive it is.

But if you want to get any offers, you will have to check the going rate for that service. An estimated hourly wage can range anywhere between $15 to $80. Taskers also get to keep 100% of what they earn. TaskRabbit generates its revenue by charging a 15% service fee to their clients.

Taskers must have a checking account with a financial institution linked to the platform. Taskers are paid by direct deposit into their checking account. Invoices and payments are processed through their payment system. For Taskers to set up a payment account, and for Clients to make payments to Taskers and pay fees to TaskRabbit, financial information will be collected by the platform. This include credit card number, bank routing numbers, tax information, and taxpayer identification number.

Once you finish the task, the client will be notified and then you will be compensated. Payments are typically approved within 24 hours after the Tasker submits an invoice but it can take three to five days for the payment to be deposited into your bank account. TaskRabbit only pays you via PayPal once you reach a threshold of $25. You can also request a check payment but it will take up to 7 days.

Is TaskRabbit worth it?

It definitely is. But there are a lot of factors to consider in deciding whether TaskRabbit is worth your time or not.

On one hand, TaskRabbit offers flexibility when it comes to setting your schedule and rates, and choosing the services that you want to offer. It means that the tasks can be scheduled at times that are convenient for the Tasker and the client.

There is however, a screening process that you must pass so although being helpful is a plus, you must also be qualified to do certain jobs. Another downside is the inconsistent work availability. Here’s a tip: if you don’t get task invitations, try to adjust your rates, change your work area, add availability and categories, or edit your profile information. TaskRabbit also has a built-in user base so, it can take less time for a service startup to begin getting clients than if you tried to market your services on your own. If you love helping people while earning extra cash, this is the perfect platform for you.
