1. Yes, there are A LOT of blogs out there already. But not everyone is your competition.
The most recent statistics tell us that there are already more than 600 million active blogs on the Internet.
In the US alone, there are over 32 million bloggers – equivalent to around a tenth of the total US population, or almost one in ten Americans!
Just looking at those numbers is scary. It’ll immediately get you thinking: in such a crowded field, is there even room for one more blog? Do I even have a chance to stand out, or would I just get lost in the crowd?
But we have to put those numbers in context. Over six hundred million blogs, sure. But not all of them are professional blogs. Not all are profitable blogs. Some blogs are only for fun. Some are updated only rarely.
Besides, not all of those blogs have the same content. They don’t talk about the same topics. They don’t write the same posts. Some blogs are about fashion. Some about travel. Some about finance. And maybe a handful are about jumping slugs.
So you gotta understand: although there are more than 600 million blogs already, you’re not competing with each and every one of those.
So if you’re thinking that it’s already too late to start a blog because there’s no more room for you, my friend, you are mistaken. There will always be room for you. Why? Because you aren’t – and you shouldn’t be – waiting for a space to open up. You have to go in there and start carving your own space in the blogging world.
And if you’re afraid that you’d have no chance of standing out from the crowd, you’re wrong. You will stand out, I promise. Why? Because you’re you. You’re unique. You’re awesome. You have insights, experiences, and wisdom that are exclusive to you. You’ve got stories worth telling, thoughts worth hearing, and perhaps life lessons worth sharing with the rest of the world.
There will always be room for new, novel, interesting, and inspiring content. But don’t just expect to stand out as soon as you get into blogging. You have to show the world that you’re unique, that you have something different, something valuable, something exceptional to offer.
But how? In a crowded room full of people all talking out loud, all trying to get themselves heard above the noise, how do you get your voice to stand out, to be noticed, to be understood? Simple. You talk really loud. You shout. And not just that. You shout the loudest. You shout the longest. You shout the hardest. You shout in an exceptional, weird, different, and unorthodox way. Anything to get you noticed. Maybe you even sing.
The point is that in life, people won’t notice that you’re unique unless you show them. The same is true in blogging.
2. You can rank ahead with quality content anyway.
Gone are the days when you can fool Google into putting your blog or blog post on top of its search results simply by creating random, useless, spammy content and stuffing it full of keywords.
Google has gotten smarter. A lot smarter. It’s now prioritizing quality content. Content that actually has value. Content that is actually helpful to people. Content that’s not just a random jumble of repeated keywords.
In fact, Google has gotten so smart that it’s now more difficult to rank in the search results.
But that’s actually a good thing. A great thing, in fact.
Why?
Because if you believe that you have something unique, something helpful, something valuable to share with the rest of the world, then Google is on your side. You’re bound to rank in the search results. You’re bound to attract attention. You’re bound to do great.
So if you’re worried that it’s already too late to start a blog because you won’t get noticed anyway, you shouldn’t be. As long as you have quality content to offer (which I’m sure you do), you will stand out. You will get people on your blog. You will get them to read your articles, your posts, and your stories. You will get them to buy all the useful, helpful, valuable things you’re offering. You are guaranteed to succeed.
3. Yes, social media dominates the Internet. But it’s not your enemy. It’s your friend.
These days, you have social media dominating the Internet. There’s Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest, and all other kinds of social media platforms. And they attract a huge chunk of Internet traffic.
Which begs the question: can blogs still compete with social media?
First of all, you’re asking the wrong question. Blogs and social media don’t compete with one another. In fact, they go hand in hand. Social media is big and has vast reach, but ultimately it’s just a tool. Use it your advantage. Use it to attract an audience, drive visitors to your blog, and get them to read your posts or buy your products. That’s how it all works.
In fact, social media isn’t just a tool. It’s your friend. Be kind to it, and it’ll be kind to you in return. The most successful bloggers these days are the ones who build and nurture effective social media strategies, the ones who leverage the awesome power and reach of social media platforms to attract traffic to their sites and generate sales.
For example, I myself use Pinterest to drive tens of thousands of visitors to my blog, just like what many other bloggers do. Plus, most other bloggers also use Facebook, Instagram, Twitter – everything, really.
So if you think that it’s too late to start a blog because there’s already social media, you shouldn’t. Just because social media exists doesn’t mean there’s no more room for blogs. Again, they don’t compete. They aren’t exclusive of one another. There’s plenty of benefits in using both.
4. More people have access to the Internet than ever before. And they’re spending more time, and more money, online.
There’s more people on the Internet than ever before. In fact, statistics tell us that 4.72 billion people around the world use the Internet – that’s more than 60 percent of the world’s total population!
People are also staying online longer than ever. It’s estimated that each Internet user now spends an average of 6 hours and 56 minutes on the Internet – that’s almost a third of her entire day!
And the best part is that people aren’t just spending more time online – they’re spending more money online. Statistics show that more than 9 in 10 Internet users aged 16 to 64 visit online retail stores each month, and that 78.6 percent of the world’s working-age Internet users buy something online each month.
In fact, the total amount of money spent on online consumer goods purchases in 2020 exceeded a whopping $2.4 trillion, an increase of more than 25 percent compared to 2019 level, with the average ecommerce shopper spending more than $700 per year on online purchases! Now wouldn’t you like to get a piece of that?
So if you think that it’s already too late to start a blog, think again. There couldn’t be any better time to start blogging than now. I mean, there’s plenty more people to write for. There’s plenty more people to get into your blog. And there’s plenty more people to sell products to.
And just so you know, people do visit blogs. And they don’t just visit – they read. In fact, statistics show that 77% of Internet users actually read blogs, that 90% of consumers find customer content useful, and that as much as 61% of US consumers have made a purchase based solely on a blog post. Now imagine if those were your blog posts.
5. People will always need help. They will always ask questions. And they will always turn to the Internet – to blogs – for answers.
Believe it or not, a good chunk of the information available on the Internet is delivered through blogs. That’s right. Blogs are valid and mainstream sources of useful information. They’re not just online personal diaries or journals like they used to be twenty years ago.
You’ve probably never noticed it before, but many of the answers to the questions you once searched in Google actually came from blogs.
Think about it. When you wanted an in-depth travel guide for your two-week trip to Costa Rica, you found it on a travel blog.
When you looked up the Internet for new and delicious recipes to try at home, you discovered a variety of them on a couple of food blogs.
When you tried to verify if a newly-released phone was worth buying, you made up your mind after reading complete and comprehensive reviews of it on tech blogs.
And when you finally decided to sort out your money issues, you learned the whats, hows, and whys of prudent financial management off a personal finance blog.
The point is that much of the information you read online – from information on travel, parenting, and current affairs; insight on politics, personal finance, and home gardening; to inspiration on fashion, web design, and interior design – you probably read off blogs. That’s how incredibly useful and effective blogs are. They give answers. They provide solutions. They help people.
So if you’re thinking that it’s already too late to start a blog, you’re mistaken. People will always have questions. And they will always turn to the Internet – to blogs – for answers, solutions, or any form of help.
That’s where you – and your blog – come in. To help people. To give answers. To provide solutions. And maybe do so with a little bit of entertainment. A little bit of finesse. And a healthy dose of inspiration.
And just so you know, people do trust blogs. In fact, blogs have been rated as the 5th most trusted source for accurate online information.
6. Blog posts are still the most important, most effective, and most sought-after content.
Although videos (and other visual material) are becoming more and more popular, statistics show that written content – specifically blog posts such as tutorials, case studies, success stories, and the like – remains the most important type of content among brands and businesses. Written content still forms the core, the bulk of most companies’ content marketing strategies.
Why?
Because blogs are effective, plain and simple. And especially so for business. In fact, did you know that small businesses with blogs generate 126% more leads?
That businesses that blog get 55% more website visitors than businesses that don’t?
That a business website featuring a blog has a 434% higher chance of being ranked highly on search engines?
That marketers who prioritize blogging receive 13x more ROI (return on investment) than companies that do not?
That 70% of people would rather learn about a company through articles rather than advertisements?
That as much as 90% of consumers find customer content useful?
That 60% of consumers feel a company’s positivity after reading their blog?
That as much as 61% of US consumers have made a purchase based solely on a blog post?
Or that of the businesses that outsource content creation, 52% outsource writing content?
If blogging isn’t worth it anymore, why else would businesses – whose sole purpose is to profit – even bother investing in blogs and prioritizing written content?
Besides, your blog doesn’t just have to be about written content. You can use videos, too! Written content and videos aren’t mutually exclusive of one another. You don’t have to choose just one. Use both to your advantage. In fact, you can even throw in podcasts to your content mix, and other types of content, for that matter.
7. It’s easier and cheaper to start a blog than ever before.
If you’re worried that it might be too late to start a blog because you don’t have the skills or the know-how to create one, think again. It’s now easier than ever to create your very own blog.
You don’t need to be a tech whiz or something like that to understand the basics of blogging. And you don’t need to have experience either. Anyone, and I mean absolutely anyone, even a complete newbie, can start her own blog in a matter of minutes and in just a few simple steps.
Take it from me. I’ve built this very blog even without knowing anything about blogging. Seriously. The only thing I know about the Internet is that you can’t shut down the Internet if you accidentally delete the Internet Explorer icon on your computer.
Ok. So I was kidding about that last part.
But the thing is, starting your own blog is actually not that hard. And I’m 100 percent certain that you’re a better learner than me. You’ll learn fast. You’ll do fine. You’ll do great.

By the way, if you want to start your own blog just for fun, as a hobby or passion or something like that, then that’s all well and good. After all, anything that you enjoy doing, anything that makes you happy, is very much worth your time.
But chances are, you do want to make money from blogging. Right from the start, if possible. I mean, come on. Let’s be honest here. Fun or passion alone won’t put food on the table or pay the bills. And even blogging just for fun costs time, money, and effort – valuable resources which you could be committing on something else, something that earns you money.
So if you’re planning to start your own blog for some sort of monetary gain, that’s actually a valid, legitimate, and excellent idea. Blogging, after all, can be a lucrative business (note the keyword ‘can’.)
Yes, it’s true. There’s a lot of money to be made in blogging. In fact, the largest blogs on the Internet earn millions of dollars per year. The most profitable blog by far is HuffPost, which is estimated to earn $500 million a year. Other top earners include Engadget ($47.5 million per year), Moz ($44.9 million per year), PerezHilton ($41.3 million per year), and Copyblogger ($33.1 million per year).
Of course, most blogs and bloggers don’t earn millions of dollars per year. Some bloggers earn a nice, healthy, full-time monthly income – something in the range of a thousand dollars to tens of thousands of dollars per month.
Some earn a few hundred dollars or so each month.
Some only just a couple of cents or so.
And then there are those who earn nothing at all.
But the point is that, for those who do blogging really well and seriously, there is good money to be made. And there are now many more ways of earning from blogging than ever before.
Apart from the traditional display and cost-per-click ads, bloggers today can now tap into more modern – and more lucrative – sources of income, such as affiliate marketing and sponsored content, among others.

Of course, these are only a few of the major ways you can earn from blogging. There’s literally a limitless number of ways to make money off your blog.
So if you’re thinking that it might be too late to start your own blog, please don’t. There’s no better time to earn money off blogging than now. Sure, there are more blogs and bloggers competing for their share of the pie than ever before. But the pie has gotten larger as well. There’s more people on the Internet. There’s more people buying off the Internet. And there’s more ways to make money off the Internet – off blogging, for that matter.
9. Blogging isn’t dying. It’s more alive and kicking than ever before. And it’s here to stay for as long the Internet is around.
There are quite a few people who are scared to start their own blogs because they think that blogging is dying. That it’s already irrelevant. That it might completely disappear very soon.
They couldn’t be more wrong.
Twenty-seven years since the first blog was created (it wasn’t called a blog back then), blogging is truly well and alive today. In fact, it’s more popular than ever. It’s more relevant than ever. And it’s more profitable than ever.
And it’s not likely to die out anytime soon.
Why?
Because blogs are part and parcel of the Internet. Blogs are also websites. In fact, all blogs are websites (but not all websites are blogs). And the Internet is made up of millions, maybe billions of websites. Unless websites, or the concept of websites, become obsolete, blogs will be around for as long as the Internet is around, so long as it is still made up of websites.
Besides, as we’ve talked about a while ago, blogs have become more popular and relevant than ever because they’re not just online personal diaries or journals anymore. They’ve also become very reliable sources of information. They give answers. They provide solutions. They are helpful. They are useful.
The day that blogging dies out is the day when people stop asking questions on the Internet. When could that be? I mean, probably never, right?
Also, blogging is very effective for business, remember? That’s why more and more businesses are investing in blogs and websites today. And it’s not likely that they’d stop anytime soon.
In fact, the trend is that more and more business are creating their own blogs and websites these days as part of a digital marketing strategy to expand their reach, cut on traditional advertisement costs, and engage more effectively and efficiently with their existing and potential customers.
So, yeah. If you’re thinking that it’s already too late to start blogging because it’ll just die soon anyway, well, um, that’s not right. Blogging is alive. It’s still kicking. And it’s here to stay. Maybe it’s here to stay forever.
10. The time will pass anyway.
Now there are also plenty of people who are afraid to venture into blogging because of the time it will take. They are overwhelmed by their fears, doubts, and anxieties, so they put off any action to start, and simply wait and see and do nothing else. They are the people who, year after year, ask the same question: is it too late to start blogging?
Well, it’s true. Blogging takes time. A lot of it, in fact.
But you know what?
The time will pass anyway.
The precious time you spend on being afraid, being hesitant, doubting whether blogging is still worth it, fiddling around, and doing nothing could have been precious time spent on starting your own blog and growing it instead.
If you’re so scared of starting your own blog this year, so you delay acting on it and instead wait for the time to pass and then do the same thing next year, then where will that get you? Nowhere. That’s a whole year gone. Wasted.
But if you just started your own blog now, then come next year you will already have a fully functional blog that earns you full-time passive income. Yes. That’s all it takes. A year is plenty enough time to build your blog into a full-time money-making business.
So, you could spend this year being frozen, crippled, paralyzed by your fears and doubts and achieving nothing.

But remember the old proverb, ‘The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now’?
Well, it’s the same with blogging. If you haven’t started your blog just yet, there’s no point in regretting – lamenting – the fact that you haven’t built one a couple of years ago. It’s useless. It’s a waste of time. It won’t get you anywhere.
Instead, put that time to good use. You can’t go back five years ago to start a blog. But you can start one now. This very year. This very day. Start it. Work on it. Commit. Hustle. Grind. And come next year, you will already have a money-making business that generates you passive income for the rest of your life, and allows you to work from anywhere you please. Come next year, you will look back to this day, and you will be glad that you took the first step.
